Update on Wireless, Semi-Automatic Timing System Use in Sanctioned Competition
The Colorado Time Systems Wireless Dolphin Timing was previously allowed, under a waiver granted by the USA Swimming Rules & Regulations Committee, to be used in USA Swimming-sanctioned competition; that limited waiver has since expired. However, wireless systems such as the Dolphin, Swimmingly and Wylas may be used as semi-automatic timing systems to conduct a USA Swimming-sanctioned competition as long as those systems are operated within (1) the requirements of the USA Swimming Rulebook and (2) follow the manufacturer’s specifications. As some of these timing systems may have phone-based timing, the USA Swimming Safe Sport team and each company have developed protocols for use behind the blocks, which must be followed. Please review those protocols by clicking here for the USA Swimming Meet 360 guide and here for the pre-meet Safe Sport briefing for using Swimmingly at a USA Swimming meet.
USA Swimming Applicable Rules for semi-automatic timing are found in section 102.23 of the USA Swimming Rulebook.
